Through
directed focus work balancing the technical with the creative aspects
of music, students will explore the language of sound. Lively, applied
technical work and skills lead to improved physical strength and
coordination.
Creative
work enhances mental facility and problem solving skills. Group
ensemble play promotes communication, dialogue,
debate and team work.
Through
sharing and creating a common new language, students gain satisfaction
in creative self-expression, shared goals,
empathic listening and mental agility in moving between abstract
and concrete thought.
Rhythm work through
percussion on made and ‘found’ objects
develops an awareness of the sound ‘alphabet’, developing
and strengthening internal pulse, leading to an increased appreciation
for musical arts, whether as an active performer or listener.
